If you were one of the first people to get a copy of Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone back in 1997 and have it lying around at your parents house then you might want to go dust it off and check whether it is worth nearly a million Rand. Only 500 first edition hardcover copies were released in 1997 and some are selling for up to $55 000 so best you check if you happen to have one.

Prices on AbeBooks vary from $40,000 to $55,000. A handful of advance proof copies are available from $7,500 to $13,500.’ ”
Good condition paperback copies are also worth decent money so go check if you have one of those early editions. You never know.
Other books in the Harry Potter series are less valuable, but some first editions of The Chamber of Secrets and the Sorcerer’s Stone etc still a worth a few few thousand dollars if you have the correct one.
