The swell at the Waimea Bay in Hawaii yesterday for the Quiksilver Eddie Aikau event saw some absolute monster waves being generated by a Pacific storm and 28 of the world’s best big wave surfers braved the angry ocean and took a proper beating. None more so than South Africa’s Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker who dropped straight down the face of a 45ft wave and immediately went to the front of the line for wipeout of the year.
Here’s the footage. If you’re a surfer then prepare to cringe.
That will sting a tad.
It’s still only February, but already Twiggy has some stiff competition with Tom Dosland also in the race with this ridiculous wipeout from the lip of the 40 ft monster at Maui in January HERE.
