0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and 0-400km/h in under 20 seconds…that’s the ridiculous acceleration of the Koenigsegg Regera revealed at the 2015 Geneva motor show a few days ago. The new Koenigsegg is a petrol-electric hybrid and has a top speed of 410km/h. They are only building 80 of them and the 1800 horse power beast comes with a equally mental price tag of $1.89 million…or about R22 million give or take a few cents.
And incredibly is doesn’t come with a traditional gear box..it’s a single speed. Don’t ask me how the hell that works, but this from drive.com
“Instead of providing gearing that can move the car (rapidly) from standstill all the way to its top speed, the Regera’s 160kW electric motor is attached to the engine’s crankshaft, providing instant low-rev torque for initial acceleration.
The other two electric motors on the rear wheels act as further propulsion motors, then at higher speeds the petrol engine kicks in.
“You have a tremendous power from the combustion engine. It seamlessly integrates into the electrical powering of the car. It just feels like you have an engine of 20 litres with super response, with no need for gears.” [drive.com]
I’m still confused, but whatever..buy me one.
