  • Far Cry 4 – review and hamper giveaway [Xbox 360 and PS4]
Posted by on Dec 5th, 2014

Who can ever forget Far Cry 2 and the Afrikaans accents of some of the mercenaries hey. Well that was ages ago and the franchise is now in its 4th installment set in the Himalayas. The massive open world area of Kyrat is yours to explore and is one of the best locations you will find in any video game. The scenery is pretty much some the most dense, visually impressive areas you will have the pleasure of walking around in…or driving or using a snow mobile or climbing or flying around in a gyrocopter and using a wingsuit to glide through canyons. Jungles, shrines, cities and snow covered mountains are just some of the vistas you’ll encounter and they are alive and dynamic. Hell you can even ride into an enemy camp on the back of an elephant launching grenades at bad guys if that’s your thing.

Now i’ve got a Far Cry 4 hamper to give away to some lucky reader and it includes either the Xbox 360 or PS4 copy as well as a rad puffer jacket and some other merchandise. Sound good? Well then keep reading.

    Right then…

The low-down: Hidden in the towering Himalayas lies Kyrat, a country steeped in tradition and violence. You are Ajay Ghale. Traveling to Kyrat to fulfill your mother’s dying wish, you find yourself caught up in a civil war to overthrow the oppressive regime of dictator Pagan Min. Explore and navigate this vast open world, where danger and unpredictability lurk around every corner. Here, every decision counts, and every second is a story.

Pretty standard for the Far Cry series and in all honesty the formula hasn’t changed much just the location. You run around the open world sand box killing bad guys in various ways and liberating key outposts. Here’s an extended launch trailer so you know what to expect.

Here’s my 2 cents so far.

Presentation: i said it in the opening paragraph and i’ll say it again. Visuals are stunning. The detailed environment is top class and it is massive and diverse. Wild animals roam the terrain, lighting and weather changes are great and the cities are alive and bustling. There’s even a supernatural section where you explore the mythical Shangri La, but i won’t spoil it by explaining that.

Gameplay: you will be spoilt for choice and there is literally too much to do. It’s pretty overwhelming at certain points with main mission, side missions for different characters, climbing towers which is like a platform puzzle that opens new areas, liberating outposts, storming heavily guarded fortresses, taking part in a gladiator arena, vehice races, hunting, assasinations, bomb defusal missions…sh*t the list just goes on. You wont get bored basically. Combat is slick and you have vast options when it comes to how you take out enemies. I read that there is over 20 different ways to kill the main bad guy.

Lastability: you will be playing this game for a good while to come. Good luck trying to get that completion percentage above 10%.

Final thoughts: if it wasn’t for the crappy plot around the main mission it would score higher, but it’s highly enjoyable and there’s enough to distract you for months. Gets a solid 8 out 10.

Right…now one of you is gonna walk away with either an Xbox 360 or PS4 copy of the game. I’ll give the PS4 copy away to someone on Twitter and the XBox 360 copy plus hamper to someone who leaves a comment below.

The reason i need to win is that I I need to experience the almost bacchanalian sense of freedom of open world game play, it will bestow on me as a gamer and full time fan of the FarCry Series…

I really would love a copy of this. It may be my only opportunity to attempt Island Genicide, it is now. Kyrat must be cleansed of all it fauna, flora and humans. I need my Bond Villain base set up by June. Let’s do it Daddy. Let’s burn this mother down.

    Keep the site going!

To end off my 360 gaming days in a blaze of glory, by playing Far Cry 4! This game would be a fitting end, seeing as Far Cry 2 was among the first games I played on the 360.
