In a scene straight out the Hangover movie, a giraffe being transported in a truck near Johannesburg died after hitting it’s head on a highway bridge. Several witnesses reported seeing the truck transporting two blindfolded giraffes in Centurion yesterday before the accident occured. Thinus Botha stopped to take this picture.
Botha, who has since deleted his Twitter account, followed that up with a tweet saying “Truck with 2 giraffe just passed underneath Garsfontein rd on N1. 1 giraffe hit it’s head on the bridge’.
Several other users also spotted the vehicle before the accident occured including tv and radio presenter Pabi Moloi who posted this.
Apparently animals have to be transported in a closed vehicle.
“Rick Allen MD of Tshwana SPCA told News24 that the SPCA was investigating the incident, with the intention of laying charges against those responsible.
The SPCA has ascertained that Nature Conservation has issued permits for the transport of the animals.” [TimesLIVE]
