A tornado more than a kilometer wide has left at least 51 people dead in Moore, Oklahoma. Over a hundred people are being treated in hospitals after the tornado left a 32 kilometer long trail of devastation through the suburb with wind speeds reaching 320km/h.

Several amateur videos of the tornado have been posted online including this one which shows the size relative to the city as well as the damage.

An initial estimate reported that 300 homes were destroyed in Oklahoma.

“Rescue workers raced against time and darkness Monday night looking for survivors after a powerful tornado blasted an area outside of Oklahoma City, leveling homes and leaving at least 51 people dead.

At least 20 of the dead were children, including at least seven from Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, which lay directly in the path of the monster storm’s wall of wind.” [CNN]
