Amateur footage of the St Francis Bay fire [pics + video]
Posted by on Nov 11th, 2012

I don’t normally post anything on weekends, but so many people are asking about the massive fire in St Francis Bay that i’m adding this amateur footage and a few pics to show you the extent of the blaze ripping through the thatched-roofed houses of the canals. The fire is believed to have started in the Royal Wharf area where people were having a braai and it spread quickly fueled by strong winds. Last i heard over 80 homes had been destroyed and apparently there is no water pressure.

Here’s video footage from someone on the street.

Additional fire-fighters have been called in and hopefully they get it under control soon.

Oh what a terrible calamity – those poor people and what a catastrophe for that beautiful township. Here in Australia we can totally relate to devastation that results from widespread fire and our hearts go out to you. I remember St Francis as a very special place and hope it will be again. Be strong, keep hope. Our sympathy and best wishes.
