On Friday i posted an article about the Twitter app that allows you to check which users have fake or inactive followers HERE. It caused plenty of drama in the SA twitter community and is still doing the rounds on blogs and websites this week. In my post i declined to name the biggest offenders (apart from Nonhle Thema and Steve Hofmeyr) because quite frankly it’s public info and you can go look yourself. No need to rub it in since they are obviously aware of it. I got plenty of folks asking me though how to distinguish between a fake follower and a real one so they could remove or block them so i did some digging and found an app that will make your life a lot easier my little fake follower gimp.
If you are one of THOSE people who have a large number of fake followers for whatever reason, then give TwitBlock a try. Just allow the app to go through your followers list and it will generate a score along with the accounts that are most likely fake or spambots. You’ll then have the option to block or report them. Here’s a screenshot of my most likely culprits.
As is blatantly obvious..the majority of my fake followers are tittybots.
I know i’m supposed to block and report them..for the greater good of the interwebs and what not, but it’s crying shame to block or report titties!
I’ll have to think about it some more and take some time to say my farewells, but in the mean time go check your followers and weed out those bots hey. It’s not hundred percent effective since there were some legitimate accounts in the list and it also stops after checking 3000 followers. You’re follower count will drop, but at least you will have done a good deed and people won’t say you bought your followers.
It’s about quality not quantity people.
