Best of Cape Town 2012 – who makes the best coffee? [poll]
Posted by on Apr 18th, 2012

Time for the weekly Best of Cape Town 2012 poll and it’s slowing gaining momentum what with the Best Sushi and Best Burger results already in the bag. If you still don’t know what its all about then have a look HERE…it explains the process and has the results of the first two crowd sourced polls in a Top 10 list.

Basically i’m trying to compile a go-to list of the best Cape Town has to offer. Not my opinion or the opinion of experts, but rather a crowd sourced top 10 list chosen by locals via social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook and also from comments on Life is Savage.

The first best sushi and best burger polls provided some interesting insight into the best places to obtain those in Cape Town. In both polls i discovered places i didn’t even know existed and today’s poll  (suggested by my mate @pharsideuk ) is bound to provide similar results and some quality arguments.

So without wasting more time i want you to tell me..

Where in Cape Town would you go for the best coffee?

Everyone i talk to has a different opinion as to who makes the best coffee, but i wanna hear from you and see if there is a consensus as to the best cup of Joe in the city.

If you are gonna make a suggestion on Twitter or Facebook then please use the hashtags #BestofCapeTown2012 and #BestCoffee along with my Twitter handle @lifeissavage so i can track the results.

And by all means leave a comment below this post so everyone can see your choice. Feel free to say which type of coffee is your favourite and why you think so. Be sure to include price, size, ambience, friendliness of staff, hotness of other customers…anything really to help other out make a better decision.

Coz the whole point is to share this info with others so we can feel part of Cape Town’s inner circle.

Now let’s hear it…who makes the best coffee in Cape Town?

I’ve tried the coffee at most of the popular place in CT and always end up back at vida e. Great vibe, awesome staff and the coffee speaks for itself.

I reckon vida is win this simply because they have so many shops and the majority of your readers drink coffee there
Wudnt be my choice for best coffee tho. Definitely would go with Espresso Lab. Their coffee and service is amazing.

Origin at Sotano – great coffee!!
Or even Origin in De Waterkant.

Vida’s are generic, they serve good coffee but nothing great.
Gio’s is good too – but they have such an attitude about it… can deal without that!!

Must say I agree on the attitude at Gio’s, the seating and general air of hipster attitude from the staff (I refuse to use the word barista to describe semi-employed coffee makers with beards) is a bit off-putting.

But when rated purely on the taste of coffee they are my No. 1 in Cape Town. (overall my No. 1 is Le Fournil in Plett)

Myatt Cafe & Chocolatier at the V&A Waterfront, coffee is great and served with a baby macaroon! Yum!

Espresso Lab at the biscuit mill is the only place that makes a perfect cup of coffee in this whole city

Origin, De Waterkant.
Try their smaller cups of exotic makes – without sugar!
