Wasn’t so long ago that i told you that the first Zara store is gonna open in Cape Town and now comes news that US clothing giant GAP will be opening it’s very first stand alone store in Cape Town tomorrow (Wed 21st March) in Tyger Valley Center.
I always grab a few items from GAP when i’m in Canada so it would be cool to get some of the same stuff here in Cape Town. Especially the jeans and plain v-neck t-shirts. The cut is awesome.
Here’s part of the press release.
“We are excited to bring Gap’s casual American style and store experience to more customers in South Africa,” said Stefan Laban, managing director of strategic alliances for Gap Inc. “South Africa is the natural next step for expanding our presence on the continent. The country has a thriving economy and high Gap brand awareness, so we believe there is tremendous opportunity for us in the market.”
Building on its existing wholesale relationship with Stuttafords department stores, Gap and Stuttafords are opening two additional stores under its existing wholesale agreement with Stuttafords in South Africa this week. The first opens today in Sandton City Mall in Johannesburg. The second will open tomorrow in Cape Town’s Tyger Valley Centre. Each store will house product from the international Gap, GapKids and babyGap collections, and the assortment will be customized seasonally to best suit the needs of local customers and climate.” [more]
I’m guessing there will be some opening specials, but tomorrow’s a public holiday and unless you go early, Tyger Valley is gonna be a dog show.
And it will be interesting to see if the Gap store here has the same crazy end-of-season sales they have in North America. Stuff is dirt cheap.
