Blowfish Restaurant burns down, Cape Town
Posted by on Feb 11th, 2010

UPDATE: I’ve been informed that it didn’t actually burn down. Just the kitchen got toasted.

The famous Blowfish Restaurant at the Dolphin Beach Hotel , Cape Town near Blouberg has apparently just burnt to the ground an hour ago ( 9.02 am today).

Someone at the scene has confirmed that she watched the entire episode happen.

Here’s the sms:

“It took about 3 minutes for the chimney to burn out and for the roof to catch alight. There were still people in the restaurant! About 9 minutes later i called emergency services the hotel alarms went off. About 2 minutes before that people started running out. Then the fire engines arrived.”

[Thanks Camilla]

The “hottest” sushi in town just got hotter! Actually the fire damage was limited to a small section of the kitchen only. Blowfish will be open for business tomorrow evening, Friday 12 Feb, and will be celebrating with a special – half price sushi – Friday night and all day on Saturday only.

February 02, 2010 at 8:00 am it seems that the whole restaurant burning down was a bit spiced up! Nice to hear that the place is not badly damaged and that its back open for business soon.

Was there this weekend – no sign of the fire damage. Kudos to the Blowfish team for ‘business as usual’ on Valentines Day – well done on using gas braais on the patio for the seafood and as for the sushi chefs “what fire?” – delicious as ever!
