It’s been a dismal season for the Springboks (the worst in history actually) and if rumours are to be believed then coach Allister Coetzee will soon been sent packing and his replacement could be from New Zealand. Dave Rennie, the Waikato Chiefs coach, has been named amoungst several candidates to replace Coetzee once a SA Rugby sub-committee meeting takes place next week to discuss options. Getting rid of Coetzee won’t be as easy as just sacking him though…they have to find the funds to buy him out of his contract which will reportedly be around the R13 million mark. Then on top of that they have offer Rennie a contract to lure him away from a move to the Glasgow Warriors in Scotland.
Other names being thrown in the mix as replacements for Coetzee have been Rassie Erasmus and Jake White.
“Should SA Rugby opt to fire Coetzee, Rapport suggests they would need to turn to broadcast partner SuperSport to provide financial assistance in order to buy Coetzee out of the remaining three years of his contract.
Rennie, who led the Chiefs to the Super Rugby title in 2012 and 2013, is believed to have strong support at the highest level of SA Rugby.” [SA Rugby Mag]
