The South African Police Service released crime stats for 2016 a few months ago and carjacking has risen by 14.3%…the second highest increase across all criminal activity. No doubt the upcoming festive season is bound to drive that number even higher so best you familiarise yourself with the hijacking hotspots in Cape Town. The National Hijack Prevention Academy has done the research and marked the areas in Cape Town where hijacking frequently occurs and put the hotspots on a map.
The interactive map is below and you can zoom in to the exact street level location if you live or drive near those areas.
Clearly criminals have a sense of humour because the only hotspot along the Atlantic Seaboard or near the Cape Town CBD is on the corner of Ebenezer and Prestwich Street…right next to the traffic department.
Now you know. Be alert.
