Not ideal news to start the month, but the department of energy has announced that the price of petrol and diesel will be going up tomorrow (Wednesday 2 November). Petrol will go up by 45 cents a litre while those driving diesel vehicles will have to pay 63 cents a litre more.
And despite the strengthening Rand yesterday the Automobile Association has said that the price hike is due to the Rand tanking after the NPA announced it was charging finance minister Pravin Gordhan.
“We believe the recent strengthening of the rand against the dollar has not been enough to prevent a fuel price hike for November. The rand incurred heavy losses at midmonth in the wake of the NPA’s decision to charge Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. The deficit has not been made up even though the rand has been slightly stronger in the last 10 days.” [EWN]
