  • Graphic nude painting of Helen Zille and Mmusi Maimane [NSFW pic]
Posted by on Jul 29th, 2016

A couple of weeks ago the controversial painting of President Zuma and Atul Gutpa by Ayanda Mabulu HERE caused an outcry and now another artist has made headlines for a graphic nude painting showing the genitals of DA leader Mmusi Maimane and Helen Zille. The artwork was revealed on Twitter by Kenny Kunene (yes him) who bought it from artist Iven Amali after he claimed that the gallery which exhibited Mabulu’s work refused to show his because it was too insulting.

Anyways here’s the painting Kunene bought. Click it for the NSFW version.

Click for the uncensored version, but be warned. The other person is DA federal chaperson James Selfe.

This from the artist who explains his thinking behind the work

“In the painting Maimane is sweating and his physique symbolises that of a slave who toils hard to bring SA back to the white DA leaders.

“Zille is revealed as having misled the world when she said she was stepping down as a political leader of the DA. But she was pretending, as she wasn’t stepping down. Her womanhood has been portrayed as that of a snake. Therefore, taking off the G-string is a metaphor to say she took off the leadership gown, but she remains active in power.

“Selfe is worried, asking himself if this slave you put in front bring will back this South Africa to us. That’s why he is sitting like that; he is impatient and thinks Maimane is not delivering enough.” [Citizen]

And the response from Mmusi Maimane…

“It’s a crude‚ disgusting painting that belongs in a dustbin and not on display. Kenny Kunene is trying to gain some kind of publicity through someone who is relevant and trying to bring change to South Africa. We are not distracted by this silly painting. We are working hard to win elections on August 3‚” [Times Live]

    Now you know.

Kunene back attention whoring for the cadres again. Cringeworthy copy of a statement art concept is but a “copy of a statement art concept”, henceforth not worth the canvas it’s painted on, which is ultimately why any self-respecting gallery does not waste time nor good gallery space for some idiots fingerpainting projects.

    Iven Amali who?
