Some quick bragging rights from CNN who are saying that Cape Town may be the new home of contemporary art on the planet. They are already calling the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (which is only opening in 2017) near the V&A Waterfront “one of the most influential art institutions in the world”. The museum is being built around the historic grain silos in the Waterfront and will house the The Zeitz Collection which was founded in 2002 and committed to becoming one of the most representative collections of contemporary art from the African continent. The museum will have 9,500 square meters of space over nine floors, including 6,000 square meters for displays.
This from CNN.
“Cape Town is about to become home to one of the most influential art institutions in the world. The 100,000-square-foot Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa will be the biggest museum to open on the continent for more than a hundred years. Clocking in at about $38 million, it just might shift the contemporary art world as we know it.” [more at CNN]
Well done Cape Town.
