If you’re a regular at Giovanni’s deli or frequently run on the Sea Point promenade then you will most likely have run past or even spoken to one of Britain’s most wanted criminal paedophiles. Lee Nigel Tucker was arrested in Green Point last week after being on the run for 15 years. He was found guilty in 2000 for child sex assaults and sentenced to 8 years in prison, but fled Britain and ended up in Cape Town living a double life. He was a regular at the Green Point Virgin Active.
According to ukdatabase.com, Tucker was working as a helicopter pilot at the V&A Waterfront. Acting on a tip off SA police arrested him at his home in Green Point. He is currently at the Sea Point police station awaiting extradition.
Neighbours apparently cant believe that Tucker is one of the most wanted criminals in Britain.
“Disbelieving neighbours were visibly traumatised when hearing about Tucker’s background and arrest. Some of them broke into tears on learning the news.
Those who agreed to be interviewed asked that their names be withheld. One long-time resident, who knew Tucker well, said: “Never, never, never. It’s not the same person. It can’t be him. We’ve had police here (investigating crimes in the road), he’s been down to the police station before… It can’t be Lee… He’s our friend, he’s our neighbour. It can’t be him.” [iol]
