SA born Kevin Pietersen, who last played international cricket for England in 2014 before he was sacked due to well publicised differences with management, has hinted that he might play for South Africa at the start of 2018. He’s not the youngest chap, but has been in exceptional form playing for the Sunfoil Dolphins in Durban this season. Under ICC regulations he will only be eligible to play for South Africa in 2018, but he sent out this tweet an hour ago.
Morgan replied “If England refuse to lift your lifetime ban, then why not?”
“He’s played out in South Africa this year and did brilliantly. They absolutely love him out there. All these people who think Graeme Smith hates him (are wrong), they are like best mates. He is quite high up in South African cricket. It wouldn’t surprise me if they tried to persuade him to play.” But if Pietersen is to harbour this path, he will have to wait until 2018. Under ICC rules, once a player has represented a Test playing nation, he must wait for four years to represent another team. [Indian Express]
