If you’re a trail runner in Cape Town then you will be familar with the scenic Pipe Track on the slopes of Table Mountain above Camps Bay. It is a very popular route so news of someone being found dead on the trail with his throat slit over the weekend quickly spread through the running community and i received several messages to be alert and not to go running alone. Turns out though that the person is most likely not a victim of violent crime and instead died from injuries sustained during a fall and his throat was likely cut by wire. It was initially reported that a runner coming down Kasteelspoort saw police covering a body and told the person had his throat slit from ear to ear, but no belongings were taken.
Here’s an update from police.
“Preliminary investigations on the scene suggested that the man was a victim of crime and that he sustained a stab wound, however after a thorough investigation it was discovered that he possibly fell and sustained the fatal wound as a result thereof,” [News24]
