About an hour ago internet users across South Africa started reporting that they were unable to connect to international websites and their internet connection was either very slow or not connecting at all. Several internet service providers have issued network notices saying they are experiencing issues currently affecting ADSL due to international cable failures. The specific reason seems to be connected to a SEACOM a private venture that owns and operates a submarine cable connecting south and east Africa.

According to my ISP, RSAWEB, they have posted a network notice saying
“Please be advised we have an issue currently affecting international browsing. This is due to multiple international cable failures
Traffic has been rerouted and you may experience degraded international browsing
We are working with our vendor engineering teams to resolve as soon as possible.”
Will keep you posted.
