Now that popular streaming service Neflix has launched in South Africa HERE many people have been asking whether it’s worth while getting it. Several factors influence this decision namely the cost involved, your current internet package and competitor offerings. The question i see being asked most often though is how does Netflix SA differ from Netflix in the US and will South Africans be able to watch all the available series. The short answer is no. Due to regional licence agreements and content rights some of the most popular shows available elsewhere won’t be shown on Netflix SA..like The Walking Dead.
Ok so if you are considering getting the basic Netflix package for R127 per month then here’s a list of popular shows you won’t be able to watch in SA.
– The Walking Dead
– House of Cards
– Grey’s Anatomy
– Orange is the New Black
– Breaking Bad
– The Flash
And those are only the ones i’ve notice. If you spot more then let me know and i’ll add it to the list.
Multichoice and Showmax have rights to broadcast those shows so Netflix SA can’t show them. It will change in time though when new agreements are negotiated.
In the mean time there are ways to mask your SA location and watch all the content from the US. Just google it and it will show you how. It’s gonna cost you more though.
