Singer Beyoncé is set to star in a film about the life of South Africa’s Saartjie Baartman, the Khoi woman who was exhibited as a freak show attraction in 19th-century Europe under the name Hottentot Venus. Not content with being a Grammy winning singer, Beyoncé is aiming to get her hands on an Oscar by taking the lead role in a biopic about Baartman and has reportedly put together a tem of experts to help her with the role.
The Bootyliscious singer is set to write the screenplay in hopes of getting an Academy Award.
“‘She now wants to write a screenplay that gains her respect – and hopefully awards – from the film industry, and thinks Saartjie’s story could be her ticket. Winning an Academy Award would mean everything to her, and she’s a woman who is used to getting exactly what she wants.’
Baartman was believed to be just 25 when she died after being sold to a Scottish doctor in the 1800s, who put her on show in London because of the shape of her body.” [Mail Online]
