If you’ve just broken up with your boyfriend or girlfriend then Facebook can be a rather awkward and cruel place. Nobody wants to see their ex having a great time at 4am or going on a date or starting a new relationship all over their timeline and in the past the only option has been to unfriend them. Well Facebook has got another option for you…they are introducing a feature that lets you basically mute the activity of ex on your newsfeed without unfriending them. So you won’t see their name, posts, pictures or videos anywhere on your timeline.
The feature is called Get Over It. Ok it’s not really called that, but i like it so lets pretend it is.
See that’s how it works. When Facebook detects that you have gone from ‘In a Relationship’ to ‘Single’ they will give you the option to Take A Break and see less of the person you just broke up with. They also won’t notify your ex that you have decided to mute them.
“Starting today, we are testing tools to help people manage how they interact with their former partners on Facebook after a relationship has ended. When people change their relationship status to indicate they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try these tools.”
“The tools give people the option to quickly and easily:
See less of a former partner’s name and profile picture around Facebook without having to unfriend or block them. Their posts won’t show up in News Feed and their name won’t be suggested when people write a new message or tag friends in photos.
Limit the photos, videos or status updates that a former partner will see.
Edit who can see their past posts with a former partner and untag themselves from posts with that person.” [Facebook]
Now you know.
