I can’t tell you how many times i’ve heard of someone who quit their high paying job to leave the rat race behind and chase their dreams of travelling the world and document the experience. I’d listen jealously to the stories of amazing experiences in the far corners of the world and how they are being paid to do so. A while back a story did he rounds of a South African couple who left their agency jobs to do just that…well they have updated their blog and it seems it’s not going as amazingly as they’d hoped. It’s all fun and games till you end up poor and having to scrub toilets in a foreign country to get by.
Johannesburg couple, Chanel Cartell and Stevo Dirnberger, are 6 months into their journey and said that so far they’ve had to scrub 135 toilets and eat jam on crackers most days.
The couple are currently in Athens and have travelled over 25 000km so far. While their Instagram account is filled with great photo’s they had this to say
“So far, I think we’ve tallied 135 toilets scrubbed, 250 kilos of cow dung spread, 2 tons of rocks shovelled, 60 metres of pathway laid, 57 beds made, and I cannot even remember how many wine glasses we’ve polished.”
Go read the rest of the story on their blog HERE.
Cartell is adamant though that while they are not having it easy they are still having the time of their lives.
Ok i’m still jealous.
