Starbucks, the famous American coffee company, is coming to South Africa in 2016. The coffeehouse chain is set to open its first store in Johannesburg in the first half of 2016. I’m guessing that Cape Town will also get a Starbucks franchise before the end of next year. Taste Holdings, the company that recently brought Domino’s Pizza to SA, have signed an exclusive deal to bring Starbucks Coffee into sub-Saharan Africa.
“The coffee market here is vibrant and growing fast – we want to be part of that growth,” Starbucks executive Kris Engskov said in a statement.
Starbucks already sources a considerable amount of coffee it sells worldwide from farms in sub-Saharan Africa.
Franchise operator Taste says that the new cafes in South Africa will be staffed predominantly by unemployed young people from local communities, aged between 17-25.” [BBC]
Will let you know when and where the first Cape Town branch opens.
