I don’t even know what the word is for that big a number, but let’s just go with a bazillion. Zimbabwe is scrapping it’s currency after the exchange rate hit a mindblowing $35,000,000,000,000,000 Zim dollars to $1 US dollar. The largest available currency is a 100 trillion Zim dollar note and is worth about 40 cents. As of today, any Zimbabwean with the old currency can go a local bank and exchange their Zim notes for US dollars…they will recieve US$5 for Zim$175 quadrillion.
If you ever complain about the inflation rate in SA then take a moment and be thankful it’s not like in Zim where hyperinflation hit 500 billion %. Not kiff.
“Zimbabweans will start exchanging “quadrillions” of local dollars for a few US dollars next week as President Robert Mugabe’s government discards its virtually worthless national currency.” [Guardian]
Now you know.
