New e-Toll rules: if you don’t pay your outstanding e-toll fees you won’t get a car licence
Posted by on May 20th, 2015

Some rather bleak news for you Joburg folks. Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa announced today that Sanral will be linking their database with the that of vehicle registrations so basically if you don’t pay your e-Toll fees they won’t renew you car licence disc. And if you havn’t been paying your e-Toll fees at all then you will have to pay all outstanding fees first before you can renew your licence.

There was some good news in the announcement though…e-Toll tariffs will get cheaper. Nearly 50% cheaper than current prices. And the monthly cap for light vehicles will drop from R450 to R225 a month.

“Government says Sanral will be aligning its e-Tolls data base with the vehicle registration database within the year.  The shocker announcement came with government saying there would be no amnesty for unpaid e-Toll bills.” [EWN]

Now you know.
