Ya hey..it wasn’t so long ago that a customer posted pics of raw marinated chicken on the floor of Checkers store in SA and it did the rounds on local social media networks. Well a new set of pics is going viral globally after someone posted images of KFC staff washing raw chickens with a hosepipe on the dirty concrete outside a KFC branch in Braamfontein. The franchise closed it’s doors to investigate the claims last week.
The pics were obtained from video footage so here you go.
The KFC closed it’s doors and after an investigation they released a statement saying that it was “discarded chicken, never intended to be sold”.
Mmmmm…same thing the Checkers said. Here’s the official response from KFC regarding the chicken washing video.
“Like you, we were really shocked to see the pictures posted from KFC Braamfontein, and at first couldn’t believe what we were seeing. We immediately closed the store while we investigated and were extremely relieved to find out that this was discarded chicken, never intended to be sold.
We work really hard to make sure you get the greatest quality products at every store across the country. The chicken in these pictures had not met our high quality standards, and so the Braamfontein store had set it aside for disposal.
This is a good thing, but the way in which they handled the product to be disposed of definitely did not follow our procedures.
Why were they washing it?
The franchisee required the team to discard product before breading it to avoid breading (mixture of flour and our secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices) waste. The team had some waste that they had discarded with breading on it and they were washing it off to hide it from management.
We have strict processes in place, even when it comes to food disposal and will not tolerate our stores not following them. We have already dealt very firmly with the owner and responsible people involved.
We want you to know that we take this really seriously and care deeply about providing you with the great quality products you know and love.
