In January 2014 the first Street Store took place in Cape Town and a year later it has grown so rapidly that hundreds of stores for the homeless have opened globally…the world’s first rent-free, premises-free, free “pop-up clothing store” for the poor, found entirely on the street and stocked by donations. Made just out of posters, you hang up donated clothes and drop shoes into boxes, then the homeless help themselves. The 200th installment of Street Store is coming back to where it all started and will be held in Cape Town on 3rd May at the Salesian Institute Youth Projects on Somerset Rd so get involved people. And if you can’t make it in person then on-demand delivery service, Wumdrop, will pick up and deliver your donation for free…so no excuse.
The Street Store has been a massive success and has recieved widespread acclaim for bridging the gap between the haves and the have nots.
