Yesterday’s radiothon by the KFM and Cape Talk radio stations raised over R3 million to aid the effort in fighting the devastating fires that have affected the Cape Peninsula over the past 5 days. The pledge lines were set up at 11 am yesterday morning and within a matter of hours they had already recieved over a million Rand and by the end of the day they had reached the R3 million mark to raise money for much needed resources and equipment.
The blaze has largely been contained and there were no flare ups last night. Ground crews are still monitoring the active areas in Clovelly, Boyes Drive & Constantia area.
The fire has so far burnt 5000 hectares of land and damaged 13 homes, 3 of which were completely destroyed.
Hopefully it get fully extinguished today.
