Not often i send out a call to action from you fine readers, but the more you share this story the higher the likihood that someone will know who these two guys are that rescued an injured dog on Table Mountain over the weekend. The two chaps carried a 40 kg Labrador down Platteklip Gorge after it had cut its paws on glass. The owner of the dog is desperate to make contact with them and only has a pic and their first names to go on.
The entire story is pretty dramatic and will bring a tear to your eye so let’s find these two heroes hey, known only as MJ and Andrew.
The dogs owner, Peter Shrimpton, says he regular walks up Table Mountain with his dog Bella and on Sunday they went up Nursery Ravine when he noticed the dog was struggling. He discovered that three of her paws were badly cut and decided to coax and carry her toward the cable station. It got too difficult so he decided to rather go down Platteklip Gorge.
“Shrimpton knew his dog could not go on, but neither was he prepared for a night on the mountain, where the weather can change fast.
He was dressed in shorts and a shirt, and had no water, food, torch or warm clothing with him. He was exhausted and could not carry Bella any more.
“It was a very hard decision, but I left her.”
Weeping, he continued down Platteklip, when he came across two young men on their way up the mountain for a sunset hike. He told them of Bella’s plight, and they said they would carry the dog down.
“They told me to stay where I was. I waited for about 45 minutes, thinking they would not be able to manage Bella, and then suddenly they were coming around the corner, one of them with Bella over his shoulders. They took turns carrying her down. It was amazing.”[iol]
