  • Check-in with Carl, the SA teen experiencing the World Cup 2014 with the COPA Coca-Cola programme
Posted by on Jun 17th, 2014

If you’ve been following my posts on Carl and his journey to the 2014 FIFA World Cup ™ and COPA Coca-Cola® Camp in Brazil, you would be well aware that by now he has already had the trip of a lifetime hey. You already know he was only one of four SA kids lucky enough to be chosen by COPA Coca-Cola programme and actually had the honour to go out onto the field during the opening ceremony. Well since then he’s been doing what he knows best…flex his skills as a talented football star.

He already has the Ronaldo swagger!

Thursday marked the start of the COPA Football Games. The day started off with their own Opening Ceremony at the fields with players carrying flags to signal the beginning of the tournament. This was followed by games that went on until Friday, which involved knockout stages. The day closed off with a Final and Prize Giving Ceremony, which included a visit from former Brazilian football star, Bebeto. Lekker.

And how did my boy Carl do…well he scored a total of six goals, and his team finished in second. Not bad when you’re up against 116 football fanatic teens from around the world!

Nice to see the SA boys getting such an opportunity with the right guidance and mentorship. They are all already talented and this experience can only transform them into better players.

My final update from Carl will be later this week,

If you want to know how his story ends, but if you want further updates then follow @CocaCola and the #WorldsCupZA hashtag for more.

    Good times.
