Religious group wants Devil’s Peak renamed to liberate CT from the demonic name [poll]
Posted by on Jun 11th, 2014

Don’t shake your head just yet…let’s first have a chat about a religious group who met with the Western Cape name-changing committee and proposed that that the name of Devil’s Peak be changed. Maybe they have some valid and reasonable points that warrant a name change so let’s hear them out. The prominent Christian group wants the name changed to something more positive and to be more exact…they want “Cape Town liberated from the demonic name”.

Ok then.

According to reports the name ‘Devil’s Peak’ is an insult.

“To us the name is far more offensive than the other offensive names of roads, airports (and) dams which have been changed,” City advocate and Dove’s Peak for Unity member Murray Bridgman said”

“The name Devil’s Peak is an insult to Cape Town,” Isaacs says in the application. “The majestic mountain… should have a better name.”  [iol]

They have provide options for a name change including ‘Dove’s Peak’ and ‘Windberg’.

Should the name be changed? If yes then we should totally crowdsource names and get Capetonians to vote.

I’ll start the ball rolling and create a poll with some options and you can mention in the comments which you like best or leave an alternative suggestion.

  • Devil’s Peak [ie don’t change it]
  • Satan’s Peak
  • Angel’s Peak
  • Dove’s Peak
  • Nipple Peak
  • Spoon, Knife and Fork Peak [ie utensils to go with Table Mountain]
  • Chair Peak [also to go with the Table]
  • Nobody-Climbs-This Peak
  • Duidelik Peak

I like that last one…has a very Cape Town flavour to it and is similar sounding to Devil’s Peak.

What say you?

On Social Media we already have groups against the name change.

There is interesting discussion on both.

Full disclosure, I am an admin, and founder of both of these
