  • Charly’s Bakery makes Oscar Pistorius meme cookies…they don’t go down well [pics]
Posted by on Feb 26th, 2014

Legendary Cape Town confectionary Charly’s Bakery has been left with egg on their face (see what i did there..cake making pun, geddit? Same as the headline.Whatever.) and apologised for their controversial batch of Oscar Pistorius meme cookies that caused a stir on social media yesterday.

While the cookies may be in poor taste (sorry i can’t help it), they have apologised by saying “We messed up completely & we own our mistake. We apologise sincerely & we regret any offence we have caused to the Steenkamp family.” via their Twitter account.

Here’s a screenshot of the now deleted image they posted.

So what do you think? Bare in mind all the good they’ve done in the past and the fact that they apologised immediately for the error.

Throw your 2 cents into the mix (sorry!) in the comments below. Bonus points if you make a cooking related pun.

Someone should get fired… it’s the yeast they can do!

This was a half baked idea at best. Glad they owned it and apologised that was very stand-up of them.

Let’s not sugar-coat it, Charly’s Bakery must’ve know that this would be a recipe for disaster! At least they rose to the occassion and apologised, however, it was probably a little too late and the whole thing turned out to be a big flop. I guess they thought they could have their cake and eat it too. Doughn’t get me wrong, I personally think Oscar is guilty and quite frankly we’re all entitled to our opinion, but perhaps Charly’s was stirring the pot a bit too much. That’s how the cookie crumbles! And you know what they say, any publicity is good publicity, but with Charly’s great reputation they really didn’t knead extra publicity…

No such thing as bad publicity…. well played!

I am of the opinion that everybody around the world were shocked when the world learned that Oscar shot somebody through the closed toilet door. A cookie to remind the world about this is really not that bad!

it was a planned media move, front cover of the cape times in these economic times is gold!!!!

Its a shame that the murder (not proven yet) has become another medium for companies to exploit the media and to gain self exposure. I do not believe the apology is sincere either…

    Peace
