Posted by on Feb 19th, 2014

Lonely Planet, the largest travel guide book publisher in the world, is well known for it’s best destinations, best cities and best beaches in the world lists, but has never released a top hotels guide until now. This week Lonely Planet  revealed it’s very first collection of best hotels on the planet and of course a boutique Cape Town establishment topped the list in the Best Value category for 2014. Oh and another SA hotel grabbed third spot.

The Backpack in Cape Town came out tops in the list compiled by Lonely Planet authors who nominated places to stay. A panel of experts then selected the winners.

Inkosana Lodge in the Drakensberg came third in the best value category HERE.

Lonely Planet’s authors and travel editors were also asked to nominate outstanding eco-friendly hotels and hostels and in that category a South African backpackers came in second place. Bulungula Backpackers near Qunu giving us bragging rights in that category HERE.

Well played South Africa.
