Ya hey…my previous post had some serious bragging rights with the NY Times voting Cape Town the top destination in the world for 2014 HERE. We may have the best city on the planet, but according to a new internet survey South Africa has the highest average price per Mbps. A recent survey by Ookla tested, compared and ranked consumer broadband value around the globe and SA sucked balls. We came stone last out of 60 countries tested when it came to average price per Mbps for broadband access.

The global average is $6.95 per Mbps while South Africa is at $30.72 per Mbps.

Here’s a summarised list of the how expensive SA’s broadband services are.

The following list from Mybroadband.co.za shows exactly how expensive South Africa’s broadband services are.

    • 1 – Bulgaria ($0.51 per Mbps)
    • 2 – Romania ($0.59 per Mbps)
    • 3 – Lithuania ($0.83 per Mbps)
    • 15 – China ($2.26 per Mbps)
    • 19 – United Kingdom ($2.68 per Mbps)
    • 31 – United States ($3.78 per Mbps)
    • 41 – New Zealand ($6.72 per Mbps)
