  • What the fake sign language interpreter actually said at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service [video]
Posted by on Dec 11th, 2013

Ok so i’ve been rather busy these last few days so apologies for the lack of posts. I tweeted early this morning that today would see more embarrassment for South Africa after it was discovered that the official sign language interpreter on the stage where world leaders paid tribute to Nelson Mandela was actually a fake and pretty much just waved his arms around and made meaningless hand gestures. I was gonna write a post, but ran out of time so i’m throwing it in now. Sign language experts have taken a look at the footage and agree that he made no sense at all. Websites around the world showed videos of him in action and i even saw a comparison video of him and a legitimate interpreter side-by-side, but i couldn’t find any video explaining what he was actually signing about…until now.

Here’s what the fake sign language interpreter was actually signing durinmg the speeches.

I don’t know if i should be embarrassed and ashamed or if i should give that guy a slow clap for the level of confidence he was displaying.

And here’s the comparison of our boy and an official interpreter in real time.

Trust the SA government to make us look like idiots while the world watches.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha very funny, but no ways is that what he said, that would have been an outcry as it happened instead of only the next day!

    Danielle,

There was an outcry from the hearing impaired comunity. That is how they became aware of the problem. How many deaf people do you think was actually there. And just how could they have made an outcry while these speeches were going on. Run up to the stage or shout???

Dont make silly statements with serious issues!!

Someone hearing impaired should have gone up on stage -then at least the rest of the community would have understood what was being said!!
