South African swimwear model, Candice van der Merwe, has been asked by the Cape high court to explain a R155 million gift she says was given to her by an Arab companion when she was a hired model at a Seychelles resort. She also recieved an Audi R8 and a Land Rover Evoque from the unnamed admirer. According to the Mail & Guardian, the South African Revenue Service says her story lacks credibility though and suspects that the large amount of money is a tax evasion plan from her father who owes them an even greater amount
Candice has featured on Life is Savage before as one of the finalists in the Sports Illustrated Top Model search in 2010.
Her father ran the company which offered Huey helicopter rides over Cape Town and was arrested by Sars in 2004. He says he has no income or assets and the $15.3 million his daughter recieved could not have come from him.
