  • MyCiTi buses will begin along Beach Rd and High Level Rd on November 2
Posted by on Oct 2nd, 2013

Ok so it’s no secret that i live along the Atlantic Seaboard and i absolutely love it. I’m on the Sea Point promenade pretty much every single day and most weekends i’ll end up running to Camps Bay. I’ve watched with great interest the building of numerous MyCiti bus stops and stations in the area, the construction of which caused sidewalks to be ripped up and residents to complain about traffic problems and parking. As far as im aware it looks like all the bus stations in the area have been completed with pavements back to normal. All that is needed now is for the MyCiTi buses to actually start running and providing a transport service along the Atlantic Seaboard. Well i’m happy to report that the according to the City of Cape Town, the MyCiTi buses are scheduled to begin operations along Beach Road and High Level Road in Sea Point as of November 2nd 2013. Just in time for summer.

Ok so at the risk of jinxing the planned launch date i will say that it will be a very welcome mode of transport that will be added to the Sea Point area and that i’m being sneaky and hopefully putting some pressure on for it to materialise. I’m also told that ( again..keeping fingers crossed) the MyCiTi buses will start running to Camps Bay by the end of November.

This statement from the MyCiti website recently.

“Our overall plan is to roll out the MyCiTi service across the Peninsula. Everyone will eventually be able to benefit from this service, no matter where you work or play.

Our phase 1 routes should all be operational by October next year.
On the second of November this year, we will be launching:
    ·         The Montague Gardens/ Century City area route
    ·         The route for Oranjezicht and Vredehoek
    ·         Melkbosstrand to Omuramba
    ·         Area routes in Melkbosstrand and Duinefontein
    ·         And buses along Beach Road and High Level Road on the Atlantic Seaboard.”

There you have it. Have highlighted the relevant bits in red.

And if you’re wanting to know where the bus stops are and which route the buses will take. Here’s a old map i posted last year. I take it the stops are still the same and that you can rule out Main Road for now. Huge pity though.

It’s the yellow and darker orange routes that are scheduled to start on November 2nd.
