Dungeons in Cape Town delivers a monster day of big wave surfing [pics + video]
Posted by on Aug 6th, 2013

It’s my final day in Canada today and i know you folks back home have been having some stunning winter weather, but of course my return will obviously mean the kak weather is coming back. The only people thanking me for said kak weather will be surfers though because apparently the swell over the last few days has been incredible. So much so that the monster waves at Dungeons have awakened and some local surfers (plus Hawaiians John John Florence and Albee Layer) gave it a shot…and from the footage, South Africa’s best known big wave spot didn’t dissappoint. The swell was just short of 5.5 meters with a period of 19 seconds. Yoh.

Here’s Grant Twiggy Baker just chilling on a not-so-small ripple on Sunday.

And here’s video footage and some rad time-lapse photogaphy from Paul van Jaarsveld.

Swell of the year.

Apparently the conditions were perfect..not the biggest, but definitely the waves of the year.

Every time I watch ANYONE that has the BALLS OF STEEL to even contemplate going down to ride one of the GIANTS of WAVES – it freaks me out.

My hat definitely goes off to them !
