I said a few weeks back that Bafana Bafana’s World Cup 2014 hopes are not completely lost and that they still had a slim chance to qualify HERE. It was a long shot, but FIFA has ensured that it’s possible by deducting 3 points from Ethiopia. They were being investigated for fielding an illeligible player against Botswana and today FIFA officially docked them 3 points. This means that the previously unattainable 5 point lead Ethiopia had in the qualifying group has been narrowed to just 2 points and Bafana could still make their way to Brazil next year.
For that to happen though the South African soccer team has to beat Botswana and the Central African Republic has to win or draw against Ethiopia.
Yes..we may still go to Brazil in 2014 after all.
“South Africa could still book their place in next year’s World Cup in Brazil after being thrown a lifeline by Fifa.
The global body announced on Monday that Ethiopia were found guilty of fielding an illegible player, Minyahile Teshome Beyene, in a previous qualifying match against Botswana, and were docked three points.’ [SuperSport]
Would be rad if that happens.
