Newborn baby rescued from pipe beneath squat toilet in China [video]
Posted by on May 29th, 2013

Rather dramatic story to start the day off and it’s likely to make you happy and intensely angry at the same time. An abandoned newborn baby boy has been rescued from a sewerage pipe underneath a squat toilet after residents in an apartment complex heard the sound of a baby crying. Firefighters and medics were called in and the 2 hour old baby was cut free from the pipe.

The footage may be graphic for sensitive viewers.

So happy that kid is alive. Hope he grows up to be a phenomenal human being.

Baby 59, as he has been temporarily named, is in a stable condition but the incident has outraged people in China where there are frequent reports of newborns being abandoned due to the strict family planning laws and fines for having more than one child.

Glad he’s ok.

“Firefighters had to remove the pipe and take it to a nearby hospital, where doctors carefully cut around it to rescue the baby boy inside, the report said.

The child is in a stable condition and the police are looking for his parents, state television added.

The case has been widely discussed on China’s Twitter-like service Sina Weibo due to the graphic nature of the footage, with calls for the parents to be severely punished.

“The parents who did this have hearts even filthier than that sewage pipe,” wrote one user.” [Yahoo]

Amazing survival story he’ll be able to tell one day though.

What an incredible video. It must’ve been so scary to cut that pipe. What if you cut at the wrong spot!!!
