BioShock Infinite – Xbox 360 review and giveaway [gaming]
Posted by on May 28th, 2013

Havn’t done a game review in a while and my inner geek was starting to feel guilty for playing some awesome games recently and not sharing them with you. So i thought i’d give you fellow gamers a quick review, but more importantly one of you will get a copy of BioShock Infinite for the Xbox 360. I’m assuming that the majority of you are seasoned gamers so i don’t need to explain the success of the BioShock franchise hey. You’re likely to have played through the award winning first BioShock which was set in an underwater city. That was epic sh*t in the gaming world when it came out and if you loved it you will no doubt be impressed by BioShock Infinite.

The first thing that will blow you away is that the you have left the dark underwater utopia of Rapture of the first BioShock and have been catapulted into a city floating in the sky called Columbia..yep a city built between the clouds that will leave your jaw on the ground when you first get to walk through it’s streets and amoungst it’s bustling citizens.

Yes..that is what will greet you when you first set foot in Columbia.

It’s not all peaches and roses though and the pretty landscape has some sinister secrets with an ending that is a proper mind-f**k.

The low down: Set in the 1912 retro floating city of Columbia, you play the role of Booker Dewitt and your mission is to rescue a young woman called Elizabeth who has been imprisoned there since childhood. You get to use a variety of weapons and special abilities called vigors against a mutlitude of enemies working for or against the main bad oke Zachary  “The Prophet” Comstock. Racist undertones and blatant propaganda are mixed into the fantastic scenery as you move seemlessly from area to area.

Much like the first two BioShock games the use of special abilities play a vital role in making combat easier. Aside from the various weapons equipped in one hand you get to use your vigors in your other hand and they range from being able to possess enemies so they work for you, smother bad guys in a flock of crows that will tear them apart or cover them in molten lava bombs. Charming hey.

Here’s a trailer that will give you a taste of what you’ll be experiencing.

Ya…and that is but a glimpse of what will be making your balls tingle.

As i’ve done with most of the games i’ve reviewed i won’t be giving you much more details hey. I’m a firm believer in letting you experience it for yourself. You’re just gonna have to trust me when i say you’re gonna wanna play this.

Presentation: graphics are superb. Not in a raw realistic way, but more in that you will feel like you’re in a living art deco painting.

Gameplay: the storyline is outstanding and pretty much carries the game. Your relationship with Elizabeth becomes a comfort in the racist, sexist, 1912 alternate-reality and the much talked about twist at the end is epic.

Lastability: took me a decent time to play through, but you’re gonna wanna savour the moments and not complete it in one go. I played an hour here and there and it never felt like getting old or repetitive. Each chapter took a different turn leaving me wanting to find out what was gonna happen next.

Final thoughts: BioShock Infinite is one of those must-play games. The environment and story is brilliantly stitched together by Irrational Games. Get yourself a copy.

And now for the GIVEAWAY: I have a Xbox 360 copy of Bioshock Infinite to give away to one of you fine readers and all you have to do is leave a comment saying why you’d like it and also tell me what other current or upcoming game from Megarom HERE you are most amped to play.

Easy as that.

Will pick a winner by Monday next week.

UPDATE: winner chosen and it goes to Nick Frost. Thanks everyone for leaving a comment. Another giveaway soon. Gonna be another awesome game.

I’ve never played any of the Bioshock games **gasps from the audience** but on seeing the trailers for Infinite, I’ve already bought both 1 and 2 and am busy playing them through so I can get to play Infinite… Cant wait!

This would be an epic prize 😀

Other game from Megarom -> Grid 1 was, hands down, the most epic racing game I’ve ever played. Grid 2 is going to be amazeballs.

Finally finished Bioshock 1 a few weeks ago, and quite amped to play something similar. Loved the abilities and general atmosphere (Bid Daddies are creepy as hell).

As for which Megarom game I want to play, I am starting Tomb Raider this week.

Like the previous BioShock games, Presentation and Graphics are superb.. Gameplay is amazing and flawless.. It truly is one of those games that creates an addiction and I cannot wait for the BioShock Infinite release…

GRID 2, to be released soon, is probably one the most exciting racing games..

I want to win this game so hard because I’m in total hibernation winter mode and I need new games so I can sit at home under a duvet and jam instead of going out and killing my immune system with ultimately detrimental partying. Help me to help me–if that makes sense.

Also, Farcry 3 and the new Tomb Raider are right up there on my hitlist for this season.

The BioShock series has always been one of the best storylines around. It creates an intense atmosphere and has scared the crap out of me more than once, not so much with the “in-your-face” type but more the eery psycho thriller sort of scary.

And the next game… Well its gotta be the most anticipated game in the past 8 years… GTA V!! May have to quit my job to give the attention it deserves 😛

I want it because I don’t have an XBox and if I win this I have an excuse to buy one.

Also, Grid2 is going to be awesome!

I’ve been hearing nothing but great things about this game. I also enjoyed playing the previous Bioshock games so this should round up the experience quite well.

I’m definitely in the market for Grid 2 and of course, one of the most awesome & funniest characters created, Deadpool.

If I get this AWSOME game, I will have an excuse to sell my Wii and trade it in for an XBox!!

Plus Deadpool looks like a sick game and I’m all up in that things grill!

Because the last tv game console that I owned was a sega mega drive! I think I need to see what all this fuss is about.

Any game from megarom that beats Jonah lomu tearing down the touchline in the fifa rugby world cup 95 game!

So my best friend is not a geek at all! She hardly knows how to switch on majority of electronic devises. Long story short, i bought Bioschock 2 second hand, purely cause the cover looked awesome and it went for R85! Bargain! I just couldn’t get the hang of this game. One night Lauren grabbed the remote and that was the end of it. From someone who has never touched an XBOX she managed to finish the game in less than 3 days! Now she replays the game over and over and over again, leaving me no playing time for the new God of War i got for my birthday. I dont want a repeat of not being able to play my new game because my console is being hogged, but i am i now familiar with the complete dialog of Bioshock 2, would love a change!

And eventually when she will finish Bioshock infinite and get bored of it (which i doubt) then i can pre book my Deadpool game!!!!

Oooooh pick me!!!! I so want it! The 1st one was brilliant, can only imagine what this one will be like.
And and up and coming game I can’t wait for is Deadpool! That is also gonna be insane I reckon

My 15 year old son is the avid gamer. I have played a bit of a racing game which was a lot of fun, but I can’t play often or he complains that I’m cutting into his gaming time. He says that he wants Call of Duty Ghosts when it comes out.

I have a lot of love for the first game. The twist at the end, the general atmosphere and the many questions the game brings to light. The second game left me a little disappointed, but then again, how do you top the first one? I think they found a way with the third one, by creating a whole new environment – this is why I so badly want to play this game.

As for Megarom, I’m looking forward to Heroes of Might and Magic VI Shades of Darkness.

I’m a FIFA freak & my flatmate has been trying for ages to get me into more story orientated games, often mentioning this Bioshock series. This will be the perfect winter weather introduction!
As for Megarom’s other games, I’d have to say the might Star Craft ll. The original Star Craft is still to date my favourite strategy game, would love to see what they’ve done with it now.
