Havn’t done a game review in a while and my inner geek was starting to feel guilty for playing some awesome games recently and not sharing them with you. So i thought i’d give you fellow gamers a quick review, but more importantly one of you will get a copy of BioShock Infinite for the Xbox 360. I’m assuming that the majority of you are seasoned gamers so i don’t need to explain the success of the BioShock franchise hey. You’re likely to have played through the award winning first BioShock which was set in an underwater city. That was epic sh*t in the gaming world when it came out and if you loved it you will no doubt be impressed by BioShock Infinite.
The first thing that will blow you away is that the you have left the dark underwater utopia of Rapture of the first BioShock and have been catapulted into a city floating in the sky called Columbia..yep a city built between the clouds that will leave your jaw on the ground when you first get to walk through it’s streets and amoungst it’s bustling citizens.
Yes..that is what will greet you when you first set foot in Columbia.
It’s not all peaches and roses though and the pretty landscape has some sinister secrets with an ending that is a proper mind-f**k.
The low down: Set in the 1912 retro floating city of Columbia, you play the role of Booker Dewitt and your mission is to rescue a young woman called Elizabeth who has been imprisoned there since childhood. You get to use a variety of weapons and special abilities called vigors against a mutlitude of enemies working for or against the main bad oke Zachary “The Prophet” Comstock. Racist undertones and blatant propaganda are mixed into the fantastic scenery as you move seemlessly from area to area.
Much like the first two BioShock games the use of special abilities play a vital role in making combat easier. Aside from the various weapons equipped in one hand you get to use your vigors in your other hand and they range from being able to possess enemies so they work for you, smother bad guys in a flock of crows that will tear them apart or cover them in molten lava bombs. Charming hey.
Here’s a trailer that will give you a taste of what you’ll be experiencing.
Ya…and that is but a glimpse of what will be making your balls tingle.
As i’ve done with most of the games i’ve reviewed i won’t be giving you much more details hey. I’m a firm believer in letting you experience it for yourself. You’re just gonna have to trust me when i say you’re gonna wanna play this.
Presentation: graphics are superb. Not in a raw realistic way, but more in that you will feel like you’re in a living art deco painting.
Gameplay: the storyline is outstanding and pretty much carries the game. Your relationship with Elizabeth becomes a comfort in the racist, sexist, 1912 alternate-reality and the much talked about twist at the end is epic.
Lastability: took me a decent time to play through, but you’re gonna wanna savour the moments and not complete it in one go. I played an hour here and there and it never felt like getting old or repetitive. Each chapter took a different turn leaving me wanting to find out what was gonna happen next.
Final thoughts: BioShock Infinite is one of those must-play games. The environment and story is brilliantly stitched together by Irrational Games. Get yourself a copy.
And now for the GIVEAWAY: I have a Xbox 360 copy of Bioshock Infinite to give away to one of you fine readers and all you have to do is leave a comment saying why you’d like it and also tell me what other current or upcoming game from Megarom HERE you are most amped to play.
