  • Massive fist fight in French rugby league started by SA player [video]
Posted by on May 13th, 2013

It’s rare nowadays to see punches being thrown in top rugby leagues around the world, especially considering the post match consequences of being cited. It’s even more rare to see a full team brawl with punches flying everywhere and players getting knocked out. But that’s exactly what happened in a French semi-final game between Pau and La Rochelle over the weekend…and it was all sparked by a punch from SA player, Petrus Johannes Wessels.

Wessels throws the first punch at the 1.38 mark and then all hell breaks loose even after he gets sent off.

    Some serious haymakers thrown there.

According to SA Rugby Mag, Wessels played for the Free State XV in last year’s Vodacom Cup.
