Brace yourself because e-tolling will begin in the next two months whether you like it or not. The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) announced yesterday that it will go live with e-tolling in Gauteng before July 2013.

I’d normally be pointing fingers and laughing at Joburg, but this is bullsh*t.

Commencement date for E-tolling

E-tolling in Gauteng is set to commence within the next two months, the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) has confirmed.

In recent discussions between SANRAL and government, it emerged that the agency will go live with e-tolling in Gauteng in the next two months..

“What we are now waiting for is the completion of the Parliamentary process, half of which is already done. As soon as the National Council of Provinces finalizes the Transport and Related Matters Amendment Bill, the Bill will go back to the National Assembly for adoption.

“Transport Minister Ben Martins will then announce the tariffs which will be followed by the necessary notice periods. That whole process will take about two months to complete. Thereafter e-tolling will start,” SANRAL’s head of communications Vusi Mona said. ” [ read rest here NRA]

From that its only a matter of time when Cape Town will get e -tolling.
