It’s common knowledge that intimidation at surf spots occurs all over the globe and SA is no exception. Local surfers are protective over their home break and newcomers are often on the recieving end of intimidation ranging from verbal abuse to actual physical violence. A recent case along the Western Cape coastline has brought the issue in the public spotlight after a well-known surfer (identified as Rasool) was photographed holding another surfer in a necklock and repeatedly dunking him to the point where he nearly passed out. Another surfer intervened which could possibly have saved his life.
Here’s one of the images posted on Wavescape.
That photograph is just one in a series and others show the victim being dunked under water. Lots of controversy surrounding the incident since it was reported that the bald guy in the photo had targeted a different surfer in the past and threated to kill his family and burn down his house.
Damn..i thought surfers were all chilled and sh*t.
The victim has refused to press charges and further developments have cropped up with some saying the guy being dunked was first to attack the bald guy. Either way it has spurred debate about localism and hooliganism in the water.
And let’s not even get into the race card that’s being played.
Jack Johnson would not approve.
