Posted by on Sep 27th, 2012

The team behind the F1 Grand Prix bid to have it in Cape Town have said they have the backers ready to invest R1 billion needed to host the event… all that is required now is for the government to give the green light. The team is aiming to host the first F1 Grand Prix race in Cape Town by 2014 and is looking to meet Fikile Mbalula (Sports and Recreation Minister) as soon as possible to get approval.

That’s what it would look like if plans go ahead to host the event around and through the Cape Town stadium in Green Point. Imagine how awesome it would be to see screaming F1 cars racing down Beach Road.

Would be rad hey.

“Ester Henderson, communications chief officer for Cape Town Grand Prix SA, said the organisation was still trying to secure a meeting with Mbalula.”

“She said several international investors wanted to back the event. But the event would first need the endorsement from the national government before this would go ahead.

Justin de Allende, special adviser in the sports ministry, said the department was willing to meet the Cape Town Grand Prix SA team.

“Any event planned for South Africa which would develop sport and boost tourism and foreign investment would be welcomed,” said De Allende.” [iol]

Come now national government…give the go ahead so we get F1 to Cape Town by 2014. I wanna see those cars race past my windows..and more importantly see our own special brand of Cape Town F1 grid girls.

Good times.
