Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance, Lindiwe Mazibuko, has called for President Jacob Zuma to retract a statement he made in parliament regarding how a democracy works. During the national assembly on Lonmin mine negotiations earlier today the President of South Africa provoked a huge outcry after the following gem left his lips.
“You have more rights because you’re a majority; you have less rights because you’re a minority. That’s how democracy works.”
Uhhhhhhhhhm.
Let’s just do a quick Wiki search on the definition of a democracy.
“Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives.”
Now let’s go back what and see what the President of our country (not some random dumbass) believes how a democracy works.
“You have more rights because you’re a majority; you have less rights because you’re a minority. That’s how democracy works.”
For f**k’s sake.
No.
Just no.
Lindiwe Mazibuko, Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance released a statement refering to Zuma as a president who lacks an understanding of some of the basic principles of our democracy and the constitution.
She called for Zuma to retract his statement urgently.
