Right…before all you Apple fans get your skinny jeans in a bunch and start throwing frappacinos in my direction let me just say that i’m secretly jealous of your excitement that the new iPhone 5 was unveiled yesterday. The pure joy you guys displayed all over my timeline was a true display of brand loyalty and if Steve Jobs were still alive he would shed a tear seeing tweets like ‘OMFG the iPhone5 is launching…iJizz‘. That being said i’m rather concerned about one particular feature that i saw people throw about during the launch speech and in the media. Apple are claiming that the new iPhone 5 is the ‘world’s thinnest smartphone’. At 7.6mm they say it’s the thinnest, buuuuuuuuuuuuutttttttt the Huawei Ascend P1 S is only 6.68 mm thick and uhhhhhm, the Motorola Droid Razr has a thickness of 7.1mm. I may not be the brightest math person out there, but those two mentioned on Mashable earlier this year are thinner no?
Yes…that’s the announcement on CNN along with a video clip from the live event where Apple marketing chief Phil Schille introduced the device. You can clearly see the claim on the screen behind him there.
Very bold claim considering that Mashable did this review of the 6.68 mm thick Huawei Ascend P1 S back in January 2012.
You just need to Google ‘thinnest smartphones in the world list’ and you’ll find a whole bunch of articles listing various phones all thinner that the iPhone 5. There’s a top 10 thinnest smartphones in the world on Gizmo China posted in September this year HERE. The iPhone 5 would slot into fifth place according to them.
Now i’m not accusing Apple of lying outright, especially given that i’m not a tech or mobile expert, but i’m just saying that the claim that the iPhone 5 is the thinnest smartphone in the world seems a bit dodge to me hey.
Unless of course Apple send me one so i can see for myself..then i’ll totally say it’s he thinnest.
