• Hey Cape Town…Robben Island just got it’s own triathlon

I know plenty of you readers are rather active and will jump at any opportunity to show off when it comes to letting everyone know what a dominating athlete you are hey. Well now’s your chance to prove it in the very first triathlon to be staged on Robben Island in Cape Town. One island ,two races, three disciplines.

“The Tri-Robben Island offers athletes a truly historical and prestigious experience as they spend a day on the island where Madiba spent much of his time in prison.  Tri-Robben Island offers a truly diverse experience with the swim being in the harbour, and the cycle and run legs taking the athletes to the various landmarks on the island including the Limestone pits, Lighthouse and famous WW2 cannon.”

I just checked the distances and even i’m contemplating the less strenuous morning race hey..only a 400 meter swim, a 13km bike ride and a 4km run. Can do that in my sleep i reckon. The afternoon race is a tad longer with a 800 meter swim, a 27km cycle and a 6km run. There’s even a relay event if one of the discliplines is not to your liking.

Competitors will have 27 days to enter…one day for each year Mandela spent in prison on the island.

Entries are also limited so if you’re keen then get in there.

I entered this event with great excitement. Unfortunately it was postponed due to bad weather. I have since tried to retrieve my refund as the organiser’s mail suggests with no success. I have contacted all mediums provided, and up to now only received poor excuses. I have spoken to fellow athletes that entered, all of them have a similar experiece. I believe this is a fraudulant event taking advantage of eager athletes.
